Trademark applications are examined in the order of filing applications where the ordinary processing period to receive the first office action is about seven to nine months. According to the proposed revision to the Trademark Enforcement Regulations to be effective in April, 2009, however, the trademark applicants may receive the examination results as little as about two months from the application filing date by way of filing further the Preferential Examination, where the applicants are eligible to file the Preferential Examination. The typical eligible reasons for the Preferential Examination are where the applicants are using the trademarks, and where disputes take place in respect of the trademark infringements.
